At Worthy Farm in Somerset, something incredible is happening. Hexla, a clean hydrogen developer, and Levidian, a leading British climate tech firm, are teaming up to introduce groundbreaking technology called the LOOP device. This innovation will transform cow slurry into clean hydrogen and graphene, marking a significant leap towards a greener future.
Worthy Farm, famous for hosting the Glastonbury Festival, already converts tons of cow slurry and waste silage into energy using an anaerobic digestion plant. Now, with the LOOP technology, they can take it a step further. By capturing carbon from the biomethane produced in the process, they’ll create super-material graphene and clean hydrogen. This clean energy will power the farm’s existing combined heat and power plant.
The impact is impressive. The installation is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25 tonnes annually. Plus, the graphene produced will be sold to enhance the performance of various products like batteries, concrete, and plastics.
Hexla is providing funding to develop an industrial-scale LOOP1000, which promises to deliver the world’s lowest-cost clean hydrogen over its lifetime, thanks to the high-quality graphene it produces. They’ve also partnered with Levidian to deploy up to 300 LOOP1000 units globally, aiming to slash hundreds of thousands of tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

John Hartley, CEO of Levidian, shares Yeow’s enthusiasm. He believes that their collaboration with Hexla will propel their pioneering technology, including the development of the LOOP1000, to new heights.
