We all want a world where we can thrive, have energy security, and protect the environment. But how can we do all three? Well, here’s an idea: instead of just getting methane (that’s what natural gas is made of) from the ground, why not turn it into hydrogen? And while we’re at it, let’s capture the carbon that comes with it and put it back underground where it won’t harm the environment.
Here’s why it’s a big deal: When we get methane from the ground, it releases carbon dioxide into the air, which is bad for the climate. But if we can turn that methane into hydrogen right in the ground, we don’t have to worry about releasing carbon dioxide. Plus, we can use the captured carbon dioxide to help get more oil out of the ground.
This process could make money in a few ways, like selling the hydrogen and saving on energy and costs. And best of all, it’s good for the climate and the natural gas industry.
So, without spending a ton of money or needing a huge technical overhaul, we could turn natural gas into hydrogen and help the environment at the same time. Sounds like a win-win to me!
