Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases (CE&IG), a leading hydrogen fueling solutions provider, has opened a new station. The liquid hydrogen refuelling station is located in Thousand Palms, California, serving SunLine Transit Agency’s fuel cell bus fleet. SunLine is a public transit operator in the Coachella Valley region.

24/7 Hydrogen Fueling for SunLine’s Growing Zero-Emission Fleet

The new Nikkiso hydrogen station will provide round-the-clock fueling for SunLine’s 32 hydrogen fuel cell buses. Dispensing is available at both 350 and 700 bar pressures to accommodate the fleet’s needs. As SunLine plans to expand its zero-emission fleet, this station is a significant step in their transition. The agency aims to convert its entire fleet to clean hydrogen power in the near future.

SunLine has been a pioneer in adopting zero-emission vehicles since 1992, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability. The agency currently operates a mix of compressed natural gas (CNG), electric, and fuel cell buses. Mona Babauta, CEO/General Manager at SunLine, emphasized the importance of this new fueling infrastructure. The station supports SunLine’s transition to a 100% hydrogen bus fleet, a key goal for the agency.

Nikkiso Continues Partnership with SunLine

The new liquid hydrogen station complements a CNG refueling facility that Nikkiso previously installed for SunLine. The CNG station, also located in Thousand Palms, highlights the ongoing collaboration between the two organizations. Mike Mackey, President of Nikkiso CE&IG Fueling and Solutions, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. Nikkiso looks forward to supporting SunLine as it progresses towards a completely zero-emission fleet.

Expanding Hydrogen Infrastructure in California

  • SunLine is set to open a third public hydrogen refueling unit within the next few weeks.
  • The new station, located between Los Angeles and Phoenix, will cater to long-distance hydrogen-powered vehicle travel.
  • It will support cars, trucks, and buses running on hydrogen fuel cells, expanding clean transportation options.
  • Partnering with transit agencies like SunLine is crucial for developing California’s hydrogen infrastructure.
  • Collaboration helps advance the state’s clean hydrogen economy and supports its environmental goals.
  • Reliable and convenient hydrogen fueling stations play a vital role in accelerating the shift to zero-emission transportation.

As more transit agencies and fleet operators adopt hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, infrastructure expansion is essential. Stations like the Nikkiso facility in Thousand Palms will drive the transition to a cleaner future. By providing accessible and reliable hydrogen fueling, these stations support the growing demand for zero-emission transportation. Collaboration between industry leaders and transit agencies is key to achieving a sustainable future.
