Exciting news! The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has just released the recordings, presentations, and transcripts from the Clean Fuels & Products Shot™ Summit. This two-day virtual event brought together folks from government, industry, academia, and non-profit groups to dive into the objectives, progress, and future plans of the Shot.
So, what’s the Clean Fuels & Products Shot all about? Well, it’s part of DOE’s Energy Earthshots™, a series of initiatives aimed at slashing greenhouse gas emissions. Specifically, this Shot is targeting an impressive 85% reduction (compared to fossil fuels) by 2035. But that’s not all! It also has big dreams of meeting 100% of the projected 2050 demand for aviation fuel and half of the needs for maritime, rail, and off-road fuel, plus 50% of carbon-based chemicals. And how does it plan to do all that? By tapping into sustainable carbon resources.
This Shot is a big supporter of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge and aligns perfectly with the Biden-Harris administration’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Plus, it’s not just a solo effort – it’s a collaborative partnership within DOE, bringing together different parts of the agency to tackle this important mission.
