Nuvera Fuel Cells, a leading provider of fuel cell technology, has announced a collaboration with Viritech, a developer of hydrogen-powered vehicles, to support the deployment of Viritech’s VPT60N powertrain. The powertrain is designed for use in motorsport and on-road commercial vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
Memorandum of Understanding Signed
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Nuvera will supply its E-Series fuel cell engines to Viritech for integration into their powertrain product line. Nuvera’s solution is capable of achieving up to 8kW/L, meeting the demanding requirements of aerospace, motorsports, and automotive applications.
Previous Collaboration Success
Nuvera and Viritech have previously worked together, integrating Nuvera’s E-60 engine into a hydrogen-powered race car designed by Viritech. The vehicle has been successfully demonstrated at the MIRA test facility and is fully operational.
Accelerating Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Development
Kedar Murthy, Chief Commercial Officer at Nuvera, stated, “This collaboration will allow customers who see fuel cells as a key technology to get their projects up and running quickly, and optimize their systems over time.”
Timothy Lyons, CEO of Viritech, added, “Milestone products drive industry change and help advance important technologies like fuel cells for clean on-road vehicles. The collaboration is intended to accelerate the development of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) and lead to significantly more efficient products and solutions within a complete high-performance FCEV ecosystem.”
Nuvera’s Recent Success
In April 2024, Nuvera secured a repeat order for its E-Series fuel cell engine from DEVINN, based in the Czech Republic. The second unit of fuel cells will enable the company to pair the technology with an onsite electrolyzer to produce electricity and feed it into the grid.
The partnership between Nuvera and Viritech aims to drive the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology in the automotive industry, contributing to the development of cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions.
