Huafeng Fuel Cell Co. (FCTS) Begins Production at New Beijing Facility
Toyota and SinoHytec’s 50:50 joint venture, Huafeng Fuel Cell Co. (FCTS), has started operations at its new hydrogen fuel cell R&D and production plant in Beijing, China. The facility has an initial annual capacity of 10,000 fuel cell systems, mainly serving the heavy-duty commercial vehicle sector.
Expansion Plans and Facility Features
The current 44,000m2 production area will expand to 113,000m2 in a second phase scheduled for 2026. The site includes test workshops, R&D buildings, laboratories, hydrogen stations, and waste warehouses.
Toyota’s Fuel Cell Technology
Fuel cells produced at the Beijing plant will use Toyota’s proven technology, successfully deployed in its vehicles, third-party generators, and other applications. In China, Toyota has supplied fuel cells to domestic commercial vehicle manufacturers like China First Automobile and Dongfeng Motor Group.
Toyota’s Commitment to the Chinese Market
Tatsuro Uedo, Toyota China General Manager, highlighted the company’s commitment to the rapidly growing Chinese hydrogen energy market. This is especially true in the commercial vehicle sector. Toyota aims to provide high-quality, cost-effective products to Chinese and global markets. It will do this by implementing its lean production system and manufacturing culture at the new Beijing plant.
Collaboration with Chinese Companies and Government
Toyota plans to continue expanding its collaboration with Chinese companies and align with government initiatives to provide innovative hydrogen energy products that address challenges in the commercial vehicle field.
China’s Focus on Green Hydrogen
The opening of the Beijing plant coincides with the launch of a new consortium by Chinese state-owned firms. This consortium is aimed at strengthening the nation’s green hydrogen capabilities and innovation.
