The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation has announced a historic $1.3 billion funding opportunity to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging and alternative fueling infrastructure across the nation. This funding aims to support both urban and rural communities, as well as highways and major roadways.
Funding Details
This opportunity is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program. It also includes funds from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, specifically allocated for strategic grants to states and local governments. The Joint Office provides unified guidance and technical assistance, while the Federal Highway Administration administers the CFI program.
Grant Categories
The CFI program offers two types of grants, ensuring that 50% of the funding over five years goes to both community and corridor projects:
- Community Charging and Fueling Grants: This program aims to set up publicly accessible EV charging stations, as well as hydrogen, propane, and natural gas fueling stations in both urban and rural areas.
- Alternative Fuel Corridor Grants: This program focuses on deploying publicly accessible EV charging and fueling infrastructure along designated alternative fuel corridors.
