At the recent California Hydrogen Convention in Los Angeles, Eric Guter, Vice President of Hydrogen for Mobility at Air Products, shared exciting news. The industrial gases company plans to build a network of permanent hydrogen refueling stations from Northern to Southern California.

“Creating a strong hydrogen infrastructure is key to our energy future and fighting climate change,” Guter said. “California leads in energy innovation and is the first to make zero-emission, heavy-duty transportation a reality in the U.S.”

These new hydrogen refueling stations will cater to both heavy-duty vehicles, like commercial trucks and buses, and light-duty hydrogen fuel cell cars. Alison Hawkins, General Manager of Hydrogen for Mobility, Americas for Air Products, added that each station could fuel up to 200 trucks or 2,000 cars per day.

Air Products has been a pioneer in hydrogen fueling. In 2011, they supplied hydrogen to the first pipeline-fed fueling station in Torrance, California. Today, they run six hydrogen refueling stations in Southern California and have been involved in over 250 hydrogen fueling projects across 20 countries. Their technology powers over 1.5 million fueling operations each year.

This announcement follows their recent plan to build a similar network of hydrogen refueling stations in Alberta, Canada, connecting Edmonton and Calgary.

Air Products is committed to building a clean and sustainable future, starting with a robust hydrogen refueling network in California.
